Exploratory Courses

We offer a few different courses focused on major exploration to help students learn more about themselves while exploring different major and career options. Explore below to learn more about our course offerings each term.

UNIV 1810: ACES Learning Community (Fall only)

This course is available for first year ACES students

This course is designed to assist ACES students during the transition to college, providing a forum to discuss issues and concerns, promote self-awareness and growth, and cultivate a deeper understanding of your own personal goals and purposes. We will help aid in your exploratory process during your first term, including understanding the appropriate tools and resources to adjust to college life, and begin to explore majors and career opportunities all while building a network of support with ACES peers and professionals.

UNIV 1820: Making Major Decisions (Fall and Spring)

This course is available to all first- and second- year students interested in major exploration

This course is designed to help students explore majors in a holistic, interactive, and intentional manner. The main objective is to provide students with the appropriate tools and resources to declare a major(s) with confidence.  Students will actively explore majors and complete various assessments to aid in developing self-awareness by identifying values, strengths, skills, interests, and personality factors that influence decision making. Students will develop a personalized action plan to allow for continued, focused exploration of possible majors, and will learn more about the connection between majors and careers.

UNIV 1820: Exploring Engineering (Fall only)

This course is available for first year ACES students exploring engineering disciplines.

This course is designed to help students explore majors relating to Engineering in a holistic, interactive, and intentional manner. The main objective is to provide students with the appropriate tools and resources to gain insight into prospective career fields and majors, prepare for the process to apply into the College of Engineering, and develop action steps to successfully explore Engineering and its related disciplines.
