The health care field is a growth industry that is becoming global in terms of its scope. It is one of the largest industries in the United States. 2.5 trillion dollars were spent in 2010, which is approximately 17% of GDP. Health care reforms, including the Affordable Care Act, have changed the rules on health care delivery in the future. The business side of the health care system is just as important as the clinical side in  ensuring patients receive the best possible care. Through the health care management major, you will learn more about the infrastructure, finances and operations of health care systems and what it takes to keep them running smoothly.

UConn's program includes both traditional business and interdisciplinary health care management courses. Business courses include the functional areas of accounting, finance, information technology, marketing, and organizational behavior. Program-specific courses include content in risk management, law, insurance, economics, finance, and human resource management. The required courses for the major in Healthcare Management include:

  • Risk Management and Insurance
  • Introduction to Healthcare Management
  • Health Care Industry Analysis
  • Health and Social Insurance
  • Health Care Financial and Human Resource Management
  • Health Law and Policy

All School of Business majors can also be completed through the dual degree program EUROBIZ (dual degree with German Studies).

Students majoring in Health Care Management are eligible to apply for the Accelerated Master's Programs in the School of Business.
