WHAT IS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS (MIS)?
This major is part of the Business Exploration Group
This major prepares individuals to help manage the data systems and daily operations of a company. One will learn about the topics of data encryption and security measures to safeguard company information, networking computers, processing and retrieving information in a system, responding to internal data requests, and operations management. A person in this major will also learn various computer languages and work in many types of environments. Examples include: SQL, Oracle, Cobol, Visual Basic, Java, C++. This will help the person develop computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific company information. The MIS major helps prepare individuals to not only manage database systems, but also to investigate and resolve computer problems and provide technical assistance or training to users.
Students majoring in Management Information Systems are eligible to apply for the 4+1 Analytics Track within the MSBAPM (Master of Science Business Analytics and Project Management) program.
